Hike #6234 – TASSEL HILL – December 28, 2013

Hike #6234 – TASSEL HILL – December 28, 2013

Write-up by Meg Higgerson

During the week prior to the scheduled hike, Meg and assistant Barb Thomas drove south to locate the Whaupaunaucau trail head and explore the trail.    The weather and thus the roads were terrible!!  In spite of our 4WD vehicle we decided it was in our best interest to abandon our exploratory adventure.

When 10 Tramps met in Sangerfield we decided, based on the local conditions and not knowing the actual location of the original trailhead, to hike Tassle Hill.   We had a good climb up the seasonal road and then we “bushwhacked” through the woods often following deer tracks.  All in all we hiked 5 miles and had as usual had a great time.

Hike #5999 – Tassel Hill – Dec 11, 2011

Sixteen Hikers enjoyed this beautiful sunny December day to hike to the highest point in Oneida County.  The lovely view and great company compensated for  a few slips and slides on the gravel road.  We had 3 new hikers out with us.  For 2 this was their 4th hike and for 1 his 2nd.

Hike #5888 – Tassel Hill – 1/2/2011

With temperatures in the low 30s and no snow to snowshoe, we had 39 people turn up for the hike up to Tassel Hill summit.

It looks like there were 4 new people and one on their second, one on their 5th hike!  The hike was at least 4 miles total  with an additional trek down a side road which some of us thought might connect to Janis Rd., however it ended at posted private land.

At the summit, we were treated to a short show of 3 four-wheeling jeeps spinning in the deep mud holes.  The sun NEVER came out even though the 3 sunshine girls were there!!   Their magic power is in question !!!  It was  a great adventure which ended with detours for fire trucks,  NOT ONCE; BUT TWICE, in the same day!!
