After a month hiatus, a 10.5 mile, relatively flat hike was perfect.   Looking at the weather throughout the week, five other’s gambled that the 10% rain that was called for was going to be accurate.  Sir Tom, not being a gambling man, dropped out at the last minute, claiming that the threat of rain was too much for him. 

The weather going in was good, cool and partly sunny.  It wouldn’t stay that way for long.

Arriving at the #1 lean-to, it was sunshine and a nice breeze.  That made up for the lack of any water view.  We ate, read the logbook, and talked.  As usual, the hike was extended, not by much though.  On the way out, we decided to stop at the #2 lean-to for a view of the pond that added a half mile, and that’s when Paul hit the mother lode.  He found a large garbage bag of cans at a campsite.  That “trail treasure” should have covered the cost of the gas to get there, but upon further inspection at home, three were salvageable.  At least the detour was worth it.  It was a nice view of the pond.

 

Leaving the lean-to, that’s when the rain started.  It was tolerable, with it being on and off.  The bugs didn’t bother anyone, probably due either to the cool temp or the combination of  repellents that everyone used. 

The trail on the other hand was muddy and the crossings were slick.
